Bachmann: I’m A ‘Real Person,’ Not A Politician

URBANDALE, Iowa (AP) — Republican presidential hopeful Michele Bachmann says she’s not a politician but a real person.

The Minnesota congresswoman is telling Iowans at a business in Urbandale that she doesn’t need to be president. She says she’s running only because she understands what needs to be done to fix the nation’s problems.

When Bachmann was asked Wednesday what sets her apart from other candidates, she said that it’s her track record of doing what she says she’s going to do after winning election.

Bachmann says she’s been willing to buck her own party because her principles are more important than party labels. She says what’s missing in Washington is leadership that’s willing to take tough but necessary action, a quality she says she has.

Agreed. No Parties in Washington sounds like a good plan.

    • More of a Political Commentator

SHE’S MORE OF A POLITICAL COMMENTATOR. She makes more appearances on Fox than any other Republican. If she loses the nomination she’ll have a job at FOX, even her own show.

    • Wachmann is the definition of politician.

Wachmann is what every politicians dream of being. She loves the spotlight, the coverage, attention, and the ever growing earning potential her brand can bring her. Just look at Palin.

    • Hanna S

Can someone get her a Dictionary? PLEASE!!!

    • LMFAO

LMFAO, She’s not a politician, just like Christine O’donnell is not a witch. LMFAO

    • Annita W

She should do like the scarecrow and ask for a brain.

  • Swamp Rat

No doubt you are a human being-a real live person but you are a politician through-&-through! No doubt about it! You can’t escape that fact no matter what you say!

    • Judy

If it walks like a duck and quacks like a duck…you can’t be in DC as long as she has and not be a politician.

  • Pavel

She is a large part of the problem. She is determined to have her own way, but does not have a brain to really understand the role of government. If she had her way she would close down all government, throw away the key and go home to collect her retirement (Congressional retirement).

  • jeff

oh yes of course she’s a real person. One that happens to be an insane bigot!

    • Patty

Very true! And don’t forget hypocrite, as well!

      • Reasonable

        She’s not a witch, she’s you…

      • idtapit

Very true! and don’t forget smoking hot, as well!

        • Will Johnson

          Yeah, for a Senior Citizen.

          • Swordsman

Not for ANY type of human being.

She is not attractive compared to anybody. I’d sooner watch Janet Reno showering with Rosie O’Donnell.

I bet her nether regions look like a cowpie with a wagon track through it.

  • ROb

Those who are asking to be fooled can easily be fooled with this one; “I’m A ‘Real Person,’ Not A Politician”.

    • John

Isn’t that what ALL politicians would want us to believe…that they are simply real people, and NOT politicians??? You are so right, Rob!

  • ROb

“because her principles are more important than party labels.”

Isn’t this what S&P downgrade all about, inability to compromise some in Washington? If you own stocks and feeling the pain of this market drop, has to take notes on this.

  • mwallek

Another lie told by someone who likes to manufacture truth.

Islam extremists are real people too. Just as crazy as Michelle B.

  • Mark from Minnesota Tax Waste

She has my support and the support of Minnesota Tax

    • Chuck Darwin

You are weak, stupid and will fail. The only waste here is you and her.

      • Chuck Darwin

Not a lib here speaking, just the GOP is failing in coming up with anybody that is remotely viable to be a candidate, and that is a huge waste. The powers that be want Obama to stay in power so that they can carve out their agenda in another 4 years. Why do you think they are parading out all these nut cases.

        • Reasonable

carve out their agenda? President Obama has folded and caved to the (R)’s on every issue. You should be happy that we’ve got such a gutless wimp as president.

    • Wachmann, the Queen of Rage

The only thing wasted was the sperm it took to create her.

  • crash

She’s not a politician who’s involved in politics? Is that code for “I’m in over my head?”

    • Judy

It’s code for ‘anything thats going wrong in DC is not my fault’.

      • Will J.

She seems to be doing a darn good job of F’ing things up now.

  • John

Bachmann is a joke, I will vote for my dog if I have to vote for her. Bachmann running the world, HELL NO!

    • dlh

dont like her because?????? she dont beleive in giving free rides to people like you who suck out of the govt and dont contribute anything?? thats a big reason we are in this mess.

      • Mike

Answer; 1.) She has no clue how to govern.
2.) No one gets free rides. People get help with children when dead beat dads don’t help support the children they created. People get help who are sick or unable to provide for themselves, but no one, is getting a free ride and if you know of someone cheating the system, turn them in.
3.) The reason we are in this mess is due to the effects of allowing deregulation in the financial sector along with ponzi scheme fraud perpetrated on Americans and other countries citizens through derivatives and speculation.

        • Judy

          Amen to that!

      • dlh is slow

Yeah, she also doesn’t believe that the debt ceiling needed to be raised and that the U.S. doesn’t need to pay their debt. “Nothing will happen” is what she said. Now look at our credit. She’s also represents the party that doesn’t believe that taxes need to be raised, medicare isn’t needed, and they won’t compromise. I guess you are absolutely correct. She isn’t a politician. Politicians no that you need to compromise on some stuff in order to get things done. This 4th grade thinking my way or nothing isn’t going to work.

        • Patty

To DLH – Free ride? Michelle Bachman takes farm subsidies for her family farm which is taking money from the government. Her husband’s “clinic” receives Medicare and Medicaid whis is ALSO government funds or, I guess, your definition of a “free ride”. She’s a right wing nut-job AND a hypocrite! She also claims to be an Iowan. I’M an Iowan and as an Iowan, I know my Iowa history. John Wayne the actor whose spirit she claims she has is from Winterset, Iowa. John Wayne Gacey the serial killer is from Waterloo, IA. The place she claims she’s from. Read once in a while, DLH.

          • Chris

            @ Patty…

You are so wrong about using the H word there!

Of course she is going to accept those payments because that is how the system is now setup!

If she and her husband declined them, they would be putting themselves at a disadvantage and that makes no sense… in fact, if you only want politicians who do not need to earn a living, all you will have is more MARK (BILLIONAIRE) DAYTONs!

Her platform calls for the elimination or reduction of these programs – FOR EVERYONE! That would save trillions and leave them operating on a level playing field!

Do you understand that now so that you can knock off the name calling and slander?

            • frozenrunner

Why does she have a platform saying she will do it when she has a seat in congress and can do it? Quit being so naive as to believe a platform when they have a similar job. It would be believable if she said it would be a continuation of my work. She has proposed nothing to lower the cost or end programs.

            • Annie J

What a Jack Ass, do you know anything about Dayton. He didn’t even take a salary as a senator, he used his earnings to bus Senior Citizens in order to get cheaper prescription drugs in Canada. When was the last time Bachmann turned down a paycheck? When was the last time she helped someone in need without getting paid for it. She got paid for foster parenting. In fact she turned into a business.

          • meow

            @ Patty

            Agreed, FULLY. Well Put!!!

I’d actually think about voting for a Republican Woman if she had a strong record of doing things based on integrity beyond a delusional religious bigoted view and attitude. She isn’t just a little bit wrong here and there from time to time.. she GROSSLY exaggerates and bends the truth. She is a Pathological LIAR

      • John

dlh–we are in this mess because our politicians in St. Paul and Washington are more worried about being RIGHT than serving the people. We are in this mess because people like Michelle Bachmann twist the truth to serve their own interests. I agree with Mike…Bachmann has no clue how to govern. Besides, anyone running for president will state that they want to change all sorts of things. With our checks-and-balances system of government, the president can change very little in our society.

  • rw

She is sleazy, stupid political, real person.

  • Pat Kessler

I hope every time President Bachmann gives a speach she reminds the American people how she inheritied a sh t economy caused by run away spending and failed financial policies from the administration that preceeded her.

    • crash

She’ll tell us in her State of the Union that she’s not the President, she’s just a bla bla bla…

  • OLIE

maybe shes a real puppet and her nose will grow

  • lefty

another misstatement by bachmann she can never tell the truth from reality

  • native4sure17

    Yea,and Johnny Mcain is’nt a “Maverick” either.See,i told you she’d make
an excellent president because she speaks with “Forked Tongue’.

  • smb

    Spoken like a true politician.

  • MNstircrazy

She is proof Washington only needs people to hold a pen and sign name right here on this line____________ .

  • Brenda

    You and me both sista

  • wise

You liberal sows, we need the right change now! Obama has proven that he will always blame others for his failures. Not take any responsibility, cintinues to spend us into inflation and kill the world economy. The US sets the pace. The real proble is we need to create jobs to have more tax payers and this can be accomplished by opening the Oil wells, not taxing capital gains, repealing Obama care which will kill medicare, by doing all of this the investors will put money back into the economy and we will all be happy again. The End is near if you dont believe this. We are actually headed for scialism and this is what Obama wants. He is trying for the Executive Order that will make him dictator.

    • meow

If you stop and think, we are at a tipping point in this country with our technology (the internet) that has dissolved THOUSANDS and THOUSANDS of jobs… online shopping, online music downloads… ect. Then factor in the cult known as WALMART that is bent on opening store after store all over America and only hiring the bare minimum and having most part-time workers. Then you think about all the companies that have shipped jobs to over seas near SLAVE LABOR because they realized that fat lazy Americans are a health liability from it’s poor diet full of sugar and fat and other addictions. Throw in the BUSH era of two wars we can’t afford plus all the illegal foreigners his administration allowed into this country that do what? BREED LIKE LOCUSTS… and then you start to realize the issues you we have. Obama is trying to HELP with the MESS not add to it. It’s a difficult puzzle to solve and we all need to work TOGETHER and WAKE UP and realize out own accountability and how to help one another and then to make better choices.

      • meow

… and what as a species do we do best? KEEP BREEDING AND POPULATING

We’ve reached the tipping point where jobs can’t be available with our now convenience of technology.

AND WE DON’T EVEN HAVE THE ROBOTS YET… but they are coming… they are being developed now and will take away more jobs. GET READY

    • Patty

You should change you name on here…seriously… I’m sorry you believe all that and I’m guessing you most likely listen to the King of Fools – Glen Beck.

Besides, George W Bush is the one who had the Executive Order drawn up so he could be dictator. You remember him, right? He’s the one who threw us into this mess and then just slipped away quietly hoping no one would notice what he’s done.

  • wise

You minnesotans are suppose to be educated, but what i’m seeing is just the opposite. Back woods education.

    • ^not-so-wise^

And, oh wise one, how do you tell a commenter is “Minnesotan” or not? Does the font change? Or are you simply that knowing?

Guess from where I hail. C’mon… just tell me…

  • ggh

all of the comments here, are extremely negative. If this article were about man, would you be saying these types of things? What is it about Bachmann, Palin, or even Hilary, that brings out such negativity? It would be better if nobody knew if the candidates were M/F or B/W, or even D/R; we should examine a candidate based on their record—-not on statements (or mis-quoted statements twisted by the media). All the crazed comments here are worse than the politicians’ own statements. This country is in trouble—let’s get serious and stop the mud-slinging.

    • John

ggh — for me, it’s not that Bachmann or Palin are women or Republican that brings out my negativity. I am negative toward them because they distort the truth and try to scare people. They want to sound like they’re educated yet down-home folks. I agree with you that we should evaluate candidates based on their records. The problem is that we also need to base these evaluations on what they say as well. I also agree with you that our country is in trouble and the mud-slinging that occurs in Washington and St. Paul is replicated in our own comments online. We need to pull together…

    • Neille Sawyer

Her statements were not mis-quoted statements twisted by the media. They were recorded live and in person each and every time. Had any of the male candidates done the same thing the backlash would have been just as bad. So put away the sexism card and try another trick.

And yes we do need to pay attention to these types of mistakes because it speaks to the fact the none of them are paying enough attention to what is really going on around them to take a few minutes to read a speach before they give it.

With Ms. Bachman there is also the fact that there is very much a “Do as I say not as I do” mentality. It is public record that she has taken farm subsidies, one doubts very very very much that those subsidies are on the chopping block in any of her budgets.

    • Victim mentality

It’s not gender – it’s ability. I wouldn’t vote for Palin, Bachman or Hilary because I don’t believe they could do the job. And I’m female. I didn’t vote for Obama because he’s black, why would I vote for another candidate because of anatomy?

The gender / race cards don’t fly here.

    • Neko

I agree with you that the type of extreme negativity that is shown in comment boards is not helpful at all. However,I totally disagree that Michelle Bachmann draws negative comments because she is a woman.

Michelle Bachmann scares the hell out of me not because she’s a woman but because she has shown time and time again that she is willing to ignore reality and distort or make up facts to make her point. It also frightens me that she apparently has enough charisma that her supporters don’t seem concerned that she is either ignorant of the facts or deliberately ignoring them when it suits her.

I do not agree that candidates should not be evaluated based on their statements, although of course context is important. It’s comment for politicians to try and avoid responsibility for what they say when they get flack by claiming they were mis-quoted or taken out of context, but that doesn’t make it true.

  • James2

I’m a real boy, a real boy! Pinoccio

  • Murph

Why would a real person rant and rave, lie and lie some more, unless they already are a politician! True, she’s part recipient of government programs and all politician. If she wants to be seen as real, she has to at least try to do something that is not insane, wrong headed and a source of misery for others. There are just too many in Congress who are money grubbing,suck-ups to the super rich! We saw with Bush what happens when you put one in the drivers seat.Mayhem!

    • meow

      @Murph … AGREE 100%

Why can’t people understand that the Republicans ONLY CARE ABOUT THE UBER RICH? and the Democrats are trying to help the middle class???

      • soapboxgod

It amazes me how many individuals such as yourself continue to regurgitate and promote this falsehood about Democrats being “for the middle class”.

Any idea why the middle class is shrinking? Any idea at all?

Their savings and purchasing power is being wiped out through inflation; inflation which is the direct result of quantitative easing by the Federal Reserve bank.

Go look and see how many of your beloved Democrats are supporting H.R. 459 or S. 202 and get back to me.

Taking money from people who earn it and giving that money to “help the middle class” is A) immoral; and B) theft. If you condone and endorse theft then by all means at least do it ethically by simply coming directly up to a wealthy individual and robbing them. Do not elect bureaucrats in suits to do it on your behalf.

        • meow

soapboxgod … thanks for the reality check. It’s true, we can’t over generalize that Dems are only for the middle class just as much as Repubs are only for the wealthy but from everything I’ve seen in the last 15 years, it really does appear that way with the behaviors/intentions and laws from both sides.

Yeah it think ALL government actions and laws should have transparency … along with the Federal Reserve. I do believe Obama expressed many times over the importance of this transparency in government from his last campaigning efforts.

      • mid class single parent

Not true. And I’m a middle class Democrat… on a slow downward slide. The fact is, one party tends (operative word there) to help the rich, while the other supports the less fortunate. And those of us stuck in the middle? We remain… stuck.
