Dynamite Found In West Central Minn. Farm

HECTOR, Minn. (AP) -- A container of old dynamite has been discovered at a farm in west-central Minnesota and destroyed.

Renville County Sheriff Scott Hable tells that West Central Tribune said it's believed the 100 sticks of dynamite may have been inside the outbuilding for more than 40 years.

He says a relative of the former resident had heard there was dynamite in the shed at the farm near Hector and after finding a box labeled "explosives," the family member called the sheriff's office on Tuesday.

The Bloomington bomb squad arrived and destroyed the explosives in a nearby field without incident.

Hable says his office get reports every couple years about explosives being found in old farm buildings because many years ago farmers used dynamite to demolish tree stumps and beaver dams.
