Woman Sentenced For Stealing Fur Coat In Underwear

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- A woman who pleaded guilty to stealing a fur coat and concealing it inside her underwear has been sentenced to nearly two years in prison.

Stephanie Moreland, 46, will spend two-thirds of her 23-month sentence in jail and the other third on supervised release, according to the Hennepin County Attorney's Office.

She will get credit for the time she has already served.

Moreland must also pay $3,500 in restitution.

Moreland was arrested on New Year's Eve after the Alaskan Fur Company reported a short mink coat was stolen by a woman who had been in the store and acting suspiciously.

Moreland pleaded guilty to one count of felony theft of property. Police say she hid the mink coat in her underwear for three days while being questioned by police in jail.

The coat was valued at $6,500.
