USDA Provides Nearly $900K To 3 Minn. Communities

MINNEAPOLIS (AP) -- The U.S. Department of Agriculture is providing nearly $900,000 in loans and grants to help three rural Minnesota communities improve their facilities and emergency-response capabilities.

The department said Thursday the money comes from a USDA program designed to improve community resources in rural areas.

The City of Hector will get a $75,000 loan and $34,000 grant to buy a rig to fight grass fires and to buy machinery to extricate victims from auto wrecks.

The City of Kennedy will receive $59,000 in loans and $31,000 in grants to buy an emergency-response vehicle.

And Rushford-based Good Shepherd Lutheran Services is slated to receive a $693,000 loan to install a sprinkler system.

The USDA says the awards are contingent upon each recipient meeting the terms of the financial agreement.
