'High, High Interest' In State Fair Jobs

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- We're just a few days away from the great Minnesota get together and there are still thousands of people crossing their fingers for a job opportunity at the fair.

"High, high interest again this year in State Fair jobs" said Minnesota State Fair Marketing Manager Brienna Schuette.

Typically the fair itself hires around 2,700 people. Currently, there are twice as many people still hoping to snag one of the positions.

"Those are state fair departments like ticket sellers, ticket takers, sanitation and so on," Schuette said.

The large amount of interest can be attributed to the tough economy and job market. Schuette said many applicants were recently laid off or are retirees looking for temporary work.

As for tips on how to land a fair job, Schuette said that it helps to thoroughly fill out applications and describe how one would be a "great addition to the State Fair team."

Besides those hired by the fair itself, tens of thousands of people are employed by the hundreds of state fair vendors.
