MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) – Two people were injured, one critically, after an ATV rolled in St. Louis County late Friday night, authorities said.

The incident happened at about 9:37 p.m. Friday on the 4000 block of Crane Lake Road in Crane Lake.

The St. Louis County Sheriff’s Office said three people were on the ATV at the time of the accident. A juvenile was operating the ATV when he hit a pothole in the road, causing the vehicle to roll and eject all three occupants.

The driver was an 8-year-old boy and the two passengers were a  man and woman, both 42 years old.

The adult female suffered minor injuries but did not have to be transported to a hospital. The adult male suffered head injuries, was airlifted to St. Luke’s Hospital in Duluth and is in critical condition. The 8-year-old boy was transported to Cook Hospital and later transferred to St. Mary’s Hospital in Duluth. His condition is not known at this time.

Authorities said alcohol was not a factor in the crash.

The parents need to have their heads examined for letting an 8 year old kid drive a machine this big. Its stories like this that add to all the regulations and restrictions for the rest of us. I do trully hope and pray everybody survives this accident, but comes away with some common sense.
