LA CROSSE, Wis. (AP) – La Crosse County faces a quarantine on firewood and lumber after the emerald ash borer was confirmed in the southwestern Wisconsin county.
The Wisconsin Department of Agriculture, Trade and Consumer Protection says the tree-killing pest was confirmed last Friday in the Town of Medary.
The department says six beetles were discovered on a survey trap. The beetles later were confirmed to be emerald ash borers.
KAGE-AM reports neighboring counties also may be added to the expected quarantine.
The emerald ash borer has been previously found in Vernon County south of La Crosse and across the Mississippi River in Minnesota’s Houston County.
