Mpls. Warns Of Heavy Traffic Weekend

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- Minneapolis officials are warning motorists that they may encounter extra traffic and congestion this weekend.

In addition to the weekend's Twins games at Target Field, Lynx games at Target Center and Saturday's preseason Vikings game at the Metrodome, there are also a number of events scheduled for the Convention Center, along Nicollet Mall and at many of the area's smaller venues.

There is also ongoing road construction for motorists to contend with. There are lane restrictions this Saturday on 5th Avenue South as crews work to resurface that street.

A number of roads will also be closed around the Metrodome on Saturday as a security measure for the Vikings game. Among them are 5th Street between 11th and Park Avenues; Chicago Avenue from 3rd to 6th Streets; Fourth Street between Park Avenue and Interstate 35W ; and Norm McGrew Place from 3rd to 4th Streets.
