Twins Call Up Another Catcher With Mauer Out Again

MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — The Minnesota Twins have recalled catcher Rene Rivera from Triple-A Rochester for extra backup while Joe Mauer is recovering from a stiff neck.

Rivera walked into the clubhouse with his luggage about two hours before Sunday’s game against Detroit and was in the lineup batting ninth. Utility infielder Matt Tolbert was sent to Triple-A to make room on the roster. He’ll be brought back next month once the roster can be expanded.

Manager Ron Gardenhire said Mauer was feeling better in the morning and won’t be placed on the disabled list, but this is his fifth straight game missed.

Right fielder Michael Cuddyer was also improving and available to pinch hit against the Tigers. He’s been bothered by a sore wrist.

Mauer needs to be traded, he is such a baby, he has missed 5 starts because he strained his neck looking up at a foul ball, come on you need to just go away.
Drew Butera might not be a hitter but he is more durable and ready to play than Joe is and has started 7 or 8 straight games including night and day games but we all know that our Joe cannot start a day game after a night game – go figure, and you say they don’t baby him, I would take a Drew Butera anyday over a Joe Mauer. Why the Twins would give that big of a contract to a singles hitter and now can’t afford to sign any good players because of their payroll and throw away any chance of a playoff run for the next 8 years is be on me, it’s because the Polad’s are satisfied with what they have because the fans still keep coming and fill the stadium and that’s all that matters to them.

Carl Pohlad was a great man and was very active in my family. He would be pretty upset with how things have turned out the last couple seasons. But don’t blame the Pohlads for this, that’s the stupidest comment yet, Sue. You don’t have the slightest clue about that which you speak in that regard.

As far as Butera, he’s a good defensive catcher, but they may as well have the pitcher bat for himself and use the DH for Butera. He can’t hit a thing.

Mauer is the biggest P word to ever soil a uniform. His chronically strained labia has destroyed the team for years to come.

      • Sue

Yeah, Carl was such a great man that he threaten to move or dissolve the Twins unless he got his stadium.
I stand by my comment that the Pohlad’s are satisfied with the team as is as long as the fans keep filling the stadium, why spend more if the fans are there each game, you watch once the fans start going away and then they will consider spending a little more to satisfy them.

  • Glad...its September almost..

    Go vikings….

Sue, you would take Butera anyday, over Mauer? Butera can barely throw out the trash, much less a base runner, and couldn’t hit water, if he fell out of a boat.

    • DAsinMN

so what you’re saying is that butera is the same as mauer, just that mauer cost us 23 million dollar a year where as butera cost us less than 500k???

      • BKinMN

Or……maybe check the stats before you make a failed comment. Butera is overpaid at 500K, for what he does with the Twins.

        • Sue

At least Butera is in the line up and playing and giving his 100 percent rather then sitting in the dug out with “I got a strain neck I can’t play” attitude, I’m making 23mil so I don’t have to try. I will say it again I would rather have a dozen players like Butera than one player like baby Mauer.

          • BKinMN

Yeah, because that’s what baseball players do. Once they get the fat paycheck, they would rather sit on the bench with a “I got a strain neck I can’t play” attitude. Thank goodness you’re not the manager, or we’d be in the cellar every season. I’d take Mauer over a dozen Butera type players, any day. Just so I understand, you would rather take Butera, over Mauer, as an everyday player, based on payroll? If Mauer can perform, then he should get paid to perform. Pretty sure he’s done that, and will continue to perform. He didn’t determine his price, MLB, his past play, and his agent did. If you feel the need to bit@h about his pay, spout off about the agent, and MLB. FYI…..Mauer makes additional millions with endorsements.

You have no clue what you are talking about Sue. Have you ever played baseball, any sport for that matter? I played one game of scrimmage softball in April and now I will never be able to play again because I hurt my back. I won’t be able to do anything strenuos for the rest of my life for that matter and I am only 33. If you don’t know the whole situation you are better off not commenting at all. There are a lot of injured players this year. Don’t pick on Joe. There were many. Now go spill your milk and cry about it.
