Suspicious Deer Tests Negative For CWD In SE Minn.

ORONOCO, Minn. (AP) -- The Minnesota Department of Natural Resources says a deer acting oddly near Oronoco had some symptoms of chronic wasting but tested negative for the disease.

A landowner reported the adult buck deer walking in tight circles. He reported it to the DNR, which euthanized the animal.

DNR big-game program coordinator Lou Cornicelli says deer can have several diseases that might lead to the symptom. The DNR is continuing to test to find the cause.

The Post-Bulletin reports this is the first sick deer found and tested in the CWD zone of southeastern Minnesota since sharpshooting ended last winter. None of the 1,181 deer tested in the area have tested positive for the disease.

The zone was set up after a deer last fall was found with CWD.
