Irish Legionnaire Praises President Obama’s Speech

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) — Liam Kane is from Ireland where there are three American Legion posts. He said he thought President Obama did a good job of addressing the needs of veterans in the United States and in his homeland.

“It was a speech while from the heart, he has done a lot of work,” Kane said.

There are 14,000 American Legion posts worldwide. Kane said under the Obama Administration, it’s been easier for veterans in Ireland to get help.

“It’s much easier to get treatment and to get doctors and paid for as well, because before you couldn’t …. and you had to rely on your own pocket,” Kane said.

Kane said thousands of Irish fought in American wars and he’s had the honor of presiding over many funerals of fallen soldiers.
