Woman Accused In Texting Crash Pleads Guilty

FERGUS FALLS, Minn. (AP) -- A Minnesota woman accused of texting while driving before a fatal crash has pleaded guilty to criminal vehicular homicide.

Nineteen-year-old Kayla Carry of Browerville entered her plea to the felony charge Tuesday in Otter Tail County. The plea avoids a jury trial.

The complaint says that 15 text messages were sent or received from Carry's phone in the 40 minutes before the crash on Sept. 16, 2010.

Carry's vehicle had crossed the center line and hit another car head-on. The other driver -- 77-year-old Lucille Vogt of Parkers Prairie -- was killed.

Assistant County Attorney Michelle Eldien says the plea agreement calls for Carry to serve a year in jail, pay a fine and be on probation for 10 years.

KBRF-AM reports sentencing is set for Oct. 10.
