MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) — Christian Ponder is showing Minnesota Viking fans that he is a multi-dimensional quarterback.
He can throw darts to receivers, and gain yards with his fleet feet. Those skills were evident in Minnesota’s 28-0 win against Houston, when Ponder threw for one touchdown and ran for 61 yards.
Ponder definitely got past his pre-game jitters.
“The biggest thing I focused on was having fun with it, and that calmed me down,” Ponder said.
Ponder was poised and confident against the Texans, and he had great success on roll-out passes. Ponder said that his ability to pass accurately out of the pocket gives him a big advantage.
Ponder’s progress has caught the eye of Vikings coaches, who are busy trying to find the best quarterback to backup starter Donovan McNabb.
Vikings head coach Leslie Frazier said Ponder has come a long way since practice started.
“It really makes us believe that he will continue to get better and better,” Frazier said.
