News Regarding Famine Gets Worse For Somalis
MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- For the tens of thousands of Somalis living in Minnesota, the news just got worse regarding famine in their homeland.
The United Nations now says 750,000 Somalis are at risk of death in four months if there is no adequate response.
Macalester College Professor Ahmed Samatar blames incompetent government and poor transportation for the failure to get food to the hungry.
"It is so slow, so difficult, that no one -- I think -- should give up on the many hundreds of thousands, and millions, of Somalis who are on the verge of death," Samatar said. "But at the same time, it's not going to be easy."
