Missing Boater's Body Found, ID'd As Minn. Police Chief

MORRIS, Minn. (WCCO) -- Authorities have recovered the body of a boater who went missing on Sunday evening.

At 3:55 p.m., the body of Donald Heikkinen, 50, was discovered by dive teams. He was the police chief of nearby Hancock.

After 10 p.m. Sunday evening, officers were contacted about a boat capsized on Long Lake, according to the sheriff's office.

There were six people on the boat. Five made it to shore.

The sheriff's office said the boat was registered to Brian Krupke of Hancock, Minn.

Other county, state and local agencies were involved in the search, including search and rescue teams from Hennepin and Crow Wing County.

An autopsy has been ordered to determine cause of death.

The Sheriff's Office will conduct an investigation to determine what caused the boat to capsize.
