Forest Lake Man Injured After Small Plane Crash In Wis.

BALSAM LAKE, Wis. (WCCO) – A 54-year-old Forest Lake man suffered minor injuries Thursday morning after the small plane he was flying crashed into Long Lake between Centuria and Balsam Lake, Wis., according to the Polk County Sheriff's Office.

Authorities received the report of the incident at about 10:16 a.m. When they arrived, they discovered that a Piper Super Cub PA18 had tried to land on Long Lake when it overturned. The pilot got himself out of the airplane and was assisted by several fishermen in the area.

The victim was treated on the scene for minor injuries, and authorities said there were no other passengers on the plane. The Polk County Sheriff's Office said the man was on his way to Minong, Wis., and was making a practice landing on Long Lake.

The exact cause of the crash is still under investigation at this time.
