Balls Cabaret To Mark 20-Year Anniversary In Mpls.

MINNEAPOLIS (AP) -- It was originally planned for only a six-week run. But after 20 years, Balls Cabaret is still going strong in Minneapolis.

Creator Leslie Ball launched her "little cabaret idea" at the Jungle Theater's old location on Aug. 3, 1991. After a year at the Jungle, Balls Cabaret found a new home at the Southern Theater in the Seven Corners area and has played there ever since.

Ball says her weekly cabaret allows any artist to do whatever they want for five to seven minutes. She says nothing is ever screened or censored at the Saturday midnight shows.

To celebrate, Balls Cabaret will mark its 20th anniversary Saturday at the Southern. Doors open at 11:30 p.m., and the show starts at midnight.
