Calumet County Deputy Delivers Baby On Side Of Road

CHILTON, Wis. (AP) -- A Calumet County sheriff's deputy had to deliver a baby boy at the side of a road -- the third emergency birth in his 30 years on the force.

Andrea Jost, of rural Jericho, awoke at about 5:30 a.m. Thursday with labor pains that rapidly intensified.

Her mother, Marie Weinreis, drove her to the hospital but the baby couldn't wait so they pulled over and called 911. Lt. Kelly Sippel responded and helped deliver Aiden Nicholas Jost inside the car near Chilton.

Sippel tells The Post-Crescent that it's a bonus that he can help bring a new life versus watching one go out.

Mother and child are doing fine.
