High School Honors Career Of Coach, Music Teacher
MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) – Osseo High School honored a gem of a teacher Friday night by naming a stadium after him.
For 40 years, John Hansen worked as a football coach and a music teacher at Osseo High School. As a football coach, he was responsible for 17 conference championships, and as a music teacher, he filled classrooms with music.
Hansen said it was a dream come true to have the Osseo High School football field named after him.
"You know, you go about your job, and you don't expect anything like this to happened," he said. "But it did. I just feel so honored."
Hansen found his strange football/music calling in the Army.
"Those were the two things I enjoyed the most," Hansen said.
When asked if he liked teaching music as much as he liked coaching football, he said he did.
"If you can get into that field, where you are doing something that you really enjoy, that's a plus," he said.
Hansen said that his success on the football field and in the classroom has a lot to do with the wonderful students he's had over the span of his 40-career.
"The first thing that comes to my mind is the great kids I had," he said. "They were the ones that did it; I guided a little."
