MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) — The Interstate 35-W Bridge over the Mississippi River in Minneapolis will be lit red, white and blue on Sept. 11 to commemorate the 10th anniversary of 9/11, the Minnesota Department of Transportation announced Friday.
The bridge’s underpass will be lit Sunday evening to the early hours of Monday.
“All of us remember where we were when the tragic events of Sept. 11, 2001 occurred,” said MnDOT Commissioner Tom Sorel. “Whether you were in New York City, Washington, D.C., or here in Minnesota, this tragedy connected us all. By lighting the I-35W bridge in our nation’s colors, we in Minnesota honor the memory of the men and women who tragically passed away that day.”
MnDOT has commemorated other events by lighting the bridge different colors, including orange for Workers Memorial Day, which is observed annually on April 28.
