MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) – Adrian Peterson has apparently agreed to a contract extension that will keep him with the Minnesota Vikings for the long-term future.

Peterson, 26 and the team’s top overall draft choice in 2007, was in the final year of his contract and was eligible to become a free agent. It could’ve been devastating for the Vikings to lose one of the top running backs in the NFL.

The exact terms of the contract have not been released, but reports are out that Peterson agreed to a 7-year deal worth about $96 million, with $32 million guaranteed. In that case, Peterson would be with the team at least until he turns 33.

The signing comes the day before Peterson and the Vikings face the San Diego Chargers in their season opener.

  • NOT WORTH THE MONEY!!!!!

HE IS ONLY GOOD 4 ONE MORE YEAR!!!! PUT THE MONEY TO GOOD USE LIKE A NEW STADIUM??!!! TRADE EM!!!!!

    • Hmm

Only 36mill is guaranteed therefore only 2 years are for sure, the rest is up to the vikings. So stick to flipping burgers and cooking fries, let the big boys make the real decisions.

The best running back in the league does the following things-leads the league in rushing, scores TDs, does not have sub-par games, does not fumble in key moments, and plays the best in the postseason. Peterson is a stud and a great back, but if you are saying he is the best he has not produced as the best on a consistent basis. He has two to four years left in his running back prime to do these things.

  • @johny

Please explain to me which running back currently leagues the league in rushing TD’s and the postseason? None, no running back does this consistantly.

    • I Hate Ignorance

  • MrB

Who the F cares if he signed or not……I mean really, you need more than a back to win, BTW 34 – 17 vikings lose tomorrow!

    • @MrB

So if they let him walk then we’re closer to a Super Bowl, I wonder if a tree stump or yourself has a higher I.Q.?

    • MsB

Who the F cares about you…Vikings are part of Mn, today game Vikings 23 san diego 13.
      Go vikes !!!
