Duluth Man Accused Of Assaulting Preteen In 1980s

DULUTH, Minn. (AP) -- A Duluth man has been accused of sexually assaulting a girl more than 20 years ago.

Forty-year-old Charles Maurice Lebeau is charged with seven counts of criminal sexual conduct, including three first-degree counts.

A Duluth News Tribune report says the alleged assaults came to light when the woman was in therapy in 2008. She told investigators Lebeau started abusing her in 1988 when she was 12.

She says he was in a relationship with her relative, and he would drive her to school. She says on the way he would drive her to a remote area and assault her.

Lebeau was being held in the St. Louis County Jail. A jail official says he was freed on $75,000 bail Friday.

A telephone call to Lebeau's home rang unanswered Saturday.
