Charges: Mpls Man Drugged, Repeatedly Raped Girlfriend

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- A 55-year-old Minneapolis man has been charged with drugging and repeatedly raping his girlfriend while his friend cheered him on, according to authorities.

According to the criminal complaint, on Sept. 4, 2011, a police officer went to a Minneapolis residence in response to a 911 call for assistance. When the officer arrived, the female victim was found lying on the couch with severe bruising on her face. She was then transported to the hospital for medical attention and a sexual assault examination.

Later, in an interview at the hospital, the victim told police that on Sept. 2, her boyfriend, identified as Larry Narvell Harris, began assaulting her after she told him to stop smoking inside her apartment.

During the assault, Harris' friend was in the apartment and cheered Harris on, the complaint said. He has been identified as 43-year-old Otis Carter Chineth of Minneapolis.

After the beating, the victim went limp and Harris began sexually assaulting her, according to the complaint.

The victim said during the following two days, Harris would force her to take her prescription sleeping pills, which caused her to sleep a majority of the time.

At one point, the victim said that Harris got a kitchen knife and threatened her with death if she told anyone what happened.

On either Saturday night or Sunday morning, the victim told police that she awoke to knocking on her door. She said she noticed at that time that Harris and Chineth were not present. So, she answered the door and discovered that it was her friend. Her friend then called 911.

Harris faces three felony counts of first-degree criminal sexual conduct. Each individual charge has a maximum penalty of 30 years in prison and/or a $12,000 to $40,000 fine, plus conditional release.

Chineth faces one felony count of first-degree criminal sexual conduct and one felony count of first-degree burglary. The burglary charge carries a maximum sentence of 20 years in prison.

Both men are in jail.
