Man Pleads Guilty To Killing Wife In Their Home

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) – A 49-year-old man from Dayton has pleaded guilty in connection with the stabbing death of his wife back in June.

John Bogema pleaded guilty to second-degree intentional murder on Tuesday in Hennepin County Court. He had been indicted with a first-degree murder charge. He told a pre-trial court on Tuesday that he was responsible for killing his wife.

Dayton Police were called to the Bogema home at about 4:30 a.m. on June 10. When authorities arrived, Bogema met them outside and told them his wife was dead. He also said he might have had something to do with it.

Police found Georgia Lee Bogema's body in the bedroom of their home under sheets with a large gash near her throat. Investigators also found a bloody knife nearby and bloody clothes in a washing machine.

According to a complaint, Bogema left a message with Georgia's son, prior to calling police, stating "I'm sorry, I'm sorry, I'm sorry … I'm going back to the mental hospital."

Bogema faces up to 30 years in prison.
