Woman Charged For Bringing Switchblade Into Court

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) — A 48-year-old woman has been charged after police say she brought a switchblade into the Dakota County Courthouse.

Lisa Kaye Jefferson, of Richfield, has been charged with possession of a dangerous weapon in a courthouse, which is a felony.

According to the criminal complaint, Jefferson entered the courthouse on July 20 and proceeded to go through security. After her purse was sent through the X-ray machine, officers saw a dense metal object and conducted a search.

Jefferson continued to ask what they were looking for and repeatedly said she did not have any weapons.

After two more times through the X-ray machine, a deputy found a switchblade in the lining of the bottom portion of Jefferson’s makeup bag. The weapon was confiscated and Jefferson was placed under arrest.

I don’t understand why she can’t have a knife in the court house. What’s so wrong with that??

WCCO; do YOU even know WHAT a “switchblade” even looks like? The picture you have is NOT a switchblade.

Here is a clue : a switchblade’s blade FOLDS into the handle. It does NOT need a sheeth (which you also picture)

Can you say: “Stock photo”? Lighten up. BTW, it’s ‘sheath’, not ‘sheeth’.

A switchblade is illegal anywhere. But our court houses need to be as safe as possible- lots of emotions at play there…
