1 Killed After Uptown Duplex Catches Fire

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- One person has died and another is still in the hospital after a duplex fire that broke out in Minneapolis early Wednesday morning, authorities said.

Firefighters said it happened in the 3300 block of Bryant Ave. S. around 5:15 a.m.

The fire was on the first and second floor of the duplex when they arrived.

According to emergency officials, three people were rescued and brought to Hennepin County Medical Center for their injuries. One person was treated and released for their injuries and another remains hospitalized.

It was a three-alarm fire. The roof and floor of the duplex collapsed and firefighters had to stop searching the building because the fire was too intense.

A neighboring building also had to be evacuated when flames started spreading. Crews were able to get it under control and those people were allowed back in their homes. Authorities said the exact cause of the fire remains under investigation.
