Dehumidifiers Recalled After Causing House Fires
MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- Some dehumidifiers are being recalled after being blamed for fires across the country, including one in Minnesota.
The recall involves about 98,000 Goldstar and Comfort-Aire dehumidifiers made by LG Electronics.
The Consumer Product Safety Commission said the power connector for the machine's compressor can short circuit and cause a fire.
The dehumidifiers are blamed for more than $1 million in property damage, including $200,000 in damage to a home in New Brighton.
The dehumidifiers have been recalled before but only 2 percent of the 98,000 consumers who purchased the units have received a free repair that LG Electronics offered.
