Family Works To Save Cabin They Built

NINE MILE LAKE, Minn. (AP) -- Cold weather, calmer winds and a little precipitation has prevented the forest fire in northern Minnesota from spreading significantly Thursday. That's given Gregg and Patty Scott some time to make preparations for saving a log home they built themselves four years ago in the Boundary Waters Canoe Area.

The Pagami Creek fire is about five miles away from the Scott's treasured home at Nine Mile Lake. Friends and family joined the Scotts Wednesday as they worked to create a line of defense around their property. The Duluth News Tribune says they used chain saws to cut trees and brush and sprayed water to dampen any flames that would breach their property.

Meanwhile,100 additional firefighters were expected to join 325 Thursday to fight the wildfire which has consumed 160 square miles.
