Lakeville Artist Wins 2012 Duck Stamp Competition

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- A Lakeville man has something to quack about after his design was chosen for the annual Minnesota waterfowl stamp.

The ruddy duck painted by Stephen P. Hamrick was chosen from 26 other entries to be featured on the 2012 Minnesota Migratory Waterfowl Stamp.

The contest is sponsored by the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources. Each year, they choose a specific species that breeds or migrates through Minnesota.

The stamp, which costs $7.50, is required for all waterfowl hunters ages 18-64. The sales of the stamps generate up to $900,000 for the DNR each year that helps for habitat enhancement projects.

While Hamrick won't receive any prize, he does get the notoriety.

Next year's eligible species for the stamp design will be the northern pintail.
