Firefighters Moving Against Minn. Forest Fire

Crews attempting to contain a wildfire in a northern Minnesota wilderness area are working to continue their progress in the northwest corner of the fire as well as on the southern front.

Fire information officer Lisa Radosevich-Craig says Saturday that everything is going as planned on both fronts after officials announced late Friday that the 93,472-acre fire was 8 percent contained.

Radosevich-Craig said crews are working to create a stronger line in the northwest corner and using heavy equipment to clear away brush and other hazards in the southern area outside the Boundary Waters canoe area.

Wind gusts have risen over the last two days and aerial crews remain on alert for trouble spots. The air fleet includes seven helicopters, three float planes, two air tankers and three air-attack planes.
