Vikings Safety Tyrell Johnson Arrested For DWI

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- The Minnesota State Patrol arrested Vikings' safety Tyrell Johnson Tuesday morning on suspicion of a DWI.

At 1:59 a.m., a state trooper stopped Johnson's vehicle on the ramp from Interstate 94 to westbound Interstate 394 for failing to signal a merge.

During the traffic stop, the trooper observed that 25-year-old Johnson had blood shot, watery eyes and slurred speech. The trooper stated he could also detect a strong smell of alcohol.

Johnson was asked to get out of his vehicle and perform a field sobriety test. His alcohol concentration registered at a 0.12.

Hennepin County deputies booked Johnson, whose full name is Marcellous Tyrell Johnson, at 3:17 a.m. at the Hennepin County Jail.

He was released from police custody at 5:28 a.m. and faces a charge of fourth-degree DWI.

This is Johnson's fourth year with the Vikings.

His next court appearance is set for Nov. 1.
