RACINE, Wis. (AP) — A Racine man is facing criminal charges after being accused of hitting a boy with a football and knocking the wind out of him.

The charges against the 42-year-old father stack up to a maximum penalty of 14 years in prison if he’s convicted. They include physical abuse of a child causing bodily harm.

Court records say Tommie Jackson’s two sons, ages 5 and 10, started playing with some other children at a local playground, but were chased away by a 13-year-old boy. The sons returned with their father who allegedly yelled at the boy, knocked the cell phone out of his hand and threw a football into his ribs. A complaint says Jackson then picked up the boy’s cell phone and tossed it.

The Journal Times says bail for Jackson was set at $1,000 cash Monday.

After reading this article, I’m still wondering why he was charged with anything.

AHH

I don’t understand why he was charged? This is a prime example of how government is getting too much control over our lives and how power hungry they are becoming. Those that really are abusers walk free and those who do no real harm and no intent to cause any harm get punished ~ time for the government to go back to doing what its intend was when it was set up hundreds of years ago. Protect and serve not try to run our lives

Naaaa

I got no issue with a charge – if it was just the ball to the gut a lecture but he played prick and tossed the cell too so
A petty misdeamor and let him pay $300 oe whatever. He’s a big boy (lol) picling on a little 13 year old so slap him …. but a felony??? Come on

You have got to be kidding me!! 14 years for throwing a football & knocking the wind out of the kid? Guess I’d better tell my husband to not play football w/our son or he could go to jail!

This man should be commended for giving this punk a taste of his own medicine. If you have the guts to dish it out you better be prepared to take it! The disher becomes the dishee!!! There is ALWAYS someone bigger, tougher, faster, meaner than you are. Don’t like being on the receiving end ???, then don’t be a bully to start with!!!
