Wis. Man Charged, Accused Of Hitting Boy With Football

RACINE, Wis. (AP) -- A Racine man is facing criminal charges after being accused of hitting a boy with a football and knocking the wind out of him.

The charges against the 42-year-old father stack up to a maximum penalty of 14 years in prison if he's convicted. They include physical abuse of a child causing bodily harm.

Court records say Tommie Jackson's two sons, ages 5 and 10, started playing with some other children at a local playground, but were chased away by a 13-year-old boy. The sons returned with their father who allegedly yelled at the boy, knocked the cell phone out of his hand and threw a football into his ribs. A complaint says Jackson then picked up the boy's cell phone and tossed it.

The Journal Times says bail for Jackson was set at $1,000 cash Monday.
