Sheriff: Man Killed By Deputy Did Not Have Gun
MINNESOTA CITY, Minn. (AP) -- The sheriff of Winona County says the man fatally shot by a deputy last week did not have a gun.
The Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension says officers began searching for Chase Kolstad after getting reports that he was armed and suicidal. The BCA says officers found him on a bridge in Minnesota City Sept. 14 where a sheriff's deputy shot and killed Kolstad after he pointed a weapon at responding officers.
In a letter to the Winona Daily News, Sheriff Dave Brand declined to provide any more specifics about the shooting, but urged the public to keep an open mind until the investigation is complete.
