FARGO, N.D. (AP) — The New York Yankees are donating $5,000 to the Roger Maris Cancer Center in Fargo.

The gift was announced Saturday during a ceremony to honor the 50th anniversary of Maris’ record-breaking home run. He hit 61 homers in 1961.

Maris was born in Minnesota and raised in Fargo.

Mike Hannaher, spokesman for Fargo’s Sanford Health Foundation, tells the Forum newspaper that Maris’ name represents hope and survival for people who have benefited from the cancer center.

The Yankees are worth $1.6 billion dollars. Kinda of a paltry amount, if you ask me.

It’s Fargo people. According to the 2010 census the average cost of a hpspital stay in Fargo was $100/week give or take a buck. $5000 will support the entire system for months.

U Yankee haters are some ungrateful S.O.B’S.!!

  7. Dave says:

You complain about how much they are donating. How much did you donate? Or how much did the Twins donate? Not 1 cent.
