GRAND FORKS, N.D. (AP) – A standout Minnesota high school quarterback says he will play his college ball for the University of North Dakota if he doesn’t get an offer from Iowa.
Joe Mollberg of Detroit Lakes has given UND a verbal commitment. He tells the Grand Forks Herald that he likes the atmosphere and the coaches, and the direction of the program that moved from NCAA Division II to the Football Championship Subdivision ranks in 2008.
The 6-foot-3, 210-pound senior chose the Fighting Sioux over offers from North Dakota State and South Dakota State — though he says UND knows he’s still being considered by Iowa. He says he’ll probably know in a month whether he’ll get a shot with the Hawkeyes, a Football Bowl Subdivision team.
