Man Who Sued Sheriff Dies Of Drug Overdose

OWATONNA, Minn. (AP) -- An Owatonna man who sued a Mower County sheriff's sergeant alleging excessive force during his arrest has died.

The Austin Daily Herald cites Steele County court records which say 48-year-old Peter Vought died this month of an accidental "mixed drug overdose." Vought filed a lawsuit against Sgt. Jeff Ellis whose police dog bit Vought during his arrest in 2007. Vought wanted more than $75,000 in damages for pain and mental anguish.

Chief Deputy Mark May says Vought's death is unfortunate.
