CAMBRIDGE, Minn. (WCCO) – A Cambridge man who claimed to be suicidal surrendered to police Thursday night after he pointed a gun at them and they subsequently responded by firing at him, according to a police report.
At about 11:12 p.m. Thursday, the Isanti County Sheriff’s Office responded to a report of a suicidal man with a gun on the 34000 block of Hastings Street in Cambridge. When authorities arrived, authorities spotted the man, identified as Ricky Alan Geving, in a trailer at the property with a gun in his hand.
He was on the phone with the Isanti County Sheriff’s Office and told an investigator he would shoot any officer that tried to come to the door. Authorities backed off, and Geving came out of the trailer with a gun.
After several orders for Geving to drop the gun and his refusal to do so, he pointed the rifle at officers on the scene. An officer responded by firing two rounds at Geving, who took cover behind an Isanti County squad car.
After several minutes in that position, Geving eventually surrendered to police without anyone being injured.
Geving is expected to appear in Isanti County Court on Monday, and criminal charges are pending.
