Police: College Carjacking Leads To Crash, Carjacker Being Hit

INVER GROVE HEIGHTS, Minn. (WCCO) -- A man allegedly tried to carjack multiple people at an Inver Grove Heights Community College, succeeded in taking one car, crashed it, and was hit by a van while running away from the accident scene.

The Dakota County Attorney said Blake Uddin, 30, is facing three counts attempted robbery and one count of theft from person.

Police said they were called to Inver Hills College around 9:30 a.m. on Aug. 23, on a report of an attempted carjacking.

A witness told police that a man came running towards a car saying "I need your help." But then Uddin tried to grab the driver and get into the door, saying "I need your f------ car." The driver was able to speed off and called 911.

While talking to 911 operators, the victim saw a Chevy Impala speeding out of the parking lot.

An officer spoke to the owner of the Impala, who said she was putting her books in the back seat of her car when she saw a man sitting in the driver's seat. She told the man he was in the wrong car, but the man said, "I had to do this," and drove off with her vehicle in a hurry.

A few minutes later, an accident was reported with the Impala in the area of Highway 52 and Butler Ave.

A man, Uddin, was seen running from the Impala and was hit by a van as he ran across the highway.

The first attempted-carjacking victim was brought to the accident location and positively identified Uddin as the man who attempted to steal his car.

People involved in the accident reported that Uddin had tried to get access to other cars after he crashed, even attacking other drivers to force his way into the vehicles. They said he was running into the northbound traffic lanes trying to gain entrance to other passing vehicles, but then ran into the southbound lanes where he was struck by an oncoming van.
