WAITE PARK, Minn. (AP) — The City Council in Waite Park will consider whether to sell or destroy guns confiscated by police.

There’s no state law on the issue, so it’s up to individual cities to decide what to do with the weapons.

Waite Park Police Chief Dave Bentrud is asking for direction from the council because they’ve collected about nine guns since he took over as chief three years ago.

WJON reports the chief prefers to destroy the assault rifles and the illegal guns. But he’s fine with selling the rifles to a federally-licensed firearms dealer. The council considers a recommendation at a meeting Monday evening.

If the gun is fully functional and not modified it should go up for auction. Guns don’t kill people, bullets do.

I agree. If the sale is to a legal law abiding person, there is no reason to destroy the gun.Resell it and put the money to use.

I suppose after they sell the “illegal” guns. They will be stolen and used to kill someone. Maybe police officers. Sometimes stupid people should not be in charge.

Yeah, like someone who gives the green light to sell firearms to Mexican Drug Cartels …oh wait, he’s president.

Interesting article. It was my understanding that guns used in a crime were destroyed. Going through a licensed dealer would probably be the most trouble free way to go if they are to be sold. At least they have no worries about paperwork and background checks.

Sell the guns then use the $$ for welfare on dudes who want to buy Pot from the Police.
