Wis. Pot Plantation Raid Cost Thousands In OT
ASHLAND, Wis. (AP) -- Law enforcement agencies are asking the Wisconsin Department of Justice to reimburse them for overtime costs from a pot plantation raid near Clam Lake.
An estimated 10,000 marijuana plants worth about $1 million were growing on a pot plantation in the Chequamegon National Forest in northern Wisconsin's Ashland County. Twenty-two law enforcement agencies took part in the 10-month investigation and Aug. 10 raid.
Ashland County Sheriff Mick Brennan tells Wisconsin Public Radio his office ran up 105 hours of overtime, costing about $9,000.
Brennan says an investigation of that size is "something that you can't budget for."
A federal Drug Enforcement Agency program called the Cannabis Eradication and Suppression Program funnels money through the state Department of Justice to reimburse local agencies.
