Charges: Babysitter Stole Money To Fund Porn Addiction

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- An East Bethel woman has been charged after police say she burglarized a home several times in order to fund her porn addiction.

Amanda Rose Owens, 18, is charged with second-degree burglary for allegedly taking items from her neighbor's home on the 2300 block of Erskin Street Northeast in East Bethel, on three occasions last week. Darin Pake told police a camera and a jar containing $300 were stolen.

Pake said he set up a camera to find out who was burglarizing his home and discovered it was his neighbor and former babysitter, later identified as Owens.

"I came home from work, checked the tapes and saw somebody coming off the deck, though I couldn't see who it was," said Pake. "Then I went to the inside camera and they came in and wandered around and wow, I couldn't believe who it was."

The video footage shows Owens squeezing into the home through the doggy door at 7:50 a.m. on Saturday from outside the home. Once inside, she's seen rummaging through the neighbor's things, drinking a Red Bull from the fridge and leaving the residence at 8:10 a.m.

After being confronted about the alleged burglaries, Owens told police she is addicted to pornography, had purchased 20 to 30 DVDs and owed money, which is why she burglarized her neighbor's home.

"Taking things is one thing," said Pake, "and then you hear the weird porn twist behind it. It is just crazy."

She said she entered the home on three separate days and took items she intended to pawn for cash.

"She's got her own demons to deal with," said Pake, "and hopefully she learns from the experience."
