Strike That Could Stop Northstar Line Temporarily Averted
MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- A possible strike that could put a halt to the Northstar Commuter train has been averted for now.
President Barack Obama appointed a board on Thursday to review a dispute between U.S. railroads and their unions.
The Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers and Trainmen had voted to strike starting at midnight Friday. Obama's move will keep that from happening for at least two months.
It is estimated that a national rail strike would cost the U.S. economy as much as $2 billion dollars a day.
