Charges: Woman Stole College Students' Credit Cards

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- A woman has been charged with stealing credit cards from Bethel College students and then using them to buy gift cards at various Twin Cities stores.

According to the criminal complaint, 27-year-old Latoya Denise Reese has been charged with two counts of identity theft.

Reese allegedly stole credit cards from students at a number of private, Christian colleges around the state -- Bethel College, College of St. Catherine and University of St. Thomas, and St. Olaf College.

In all, she charged more than $6,300 in fraudulent transactions.

Reese was identified in surveillance video making the purchases at stores in Burnsville, Roseville, Minnetonka, and other Twin Cities locations. She used cards at Target, Best Buy, Macy's, Sephora, Old Navy, and other stores.

"This was excellent police work by the Ramsey County Sheriff's Office," said Hennepin County Attorney Mike Freeman. "Store surveillance cameras were critical in solving this case and criminals should know that because of those cameras, when they attempt identity theft crimes, they will be caught and prosecuted."
