Man Convicted Of Raping, Robbing Victim In May

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) – A jury convicted a man Monday for raping and robbing a woman behind a St. Paul gas station in May, the Ramsey County Attorney's Office said.

The jury convicted 33-year-old Demetrius Jermaine Miller of one count of first-degree criminal sexual assault and one count of first-degree aggravated robbery.

Miller is set to be sentenced on Nov. 17, 2011, in Ramsey County District Court. If given the maximum sentence for both charges, Miller could spend 50 years in prison.

According to a criminal complaint, Miller started talking with the victim on the evening of May 18 at a gas station near the intersection of Hamline and University avenues. As she was leaving, the man asked her for a cigarette.

The victim told police that Miller proceeded to drag her into an alley, punched her in the face, removed her shorts and underwear, and sexually assaulted her. He also stole her cell phone and iPod, the victim said.

Police arrested Miller on May 19 at a St. Paul apartment. He told police in a statement that the victim raped him, but that he did rob her, according to the complaint.
