Man Shot And Wounded By Pipestone Co. Deputy
PIPESTONE, Minn. (AP) -- A Pipestone County sheriff's deputy is on standard administrative leave after he shot and wounded a man during a confrontation at a home in Pipestone.
The Minnesota Department of Public Safety says Deputy Michael LaRock was called to a domestic disturbance around 6:45 p.m. Wednesday.
When LaRock arrived, a man armed with a meat cleaver emerged from a vehicle at the home. After ordering the man to drop his weapon, the deputy tried to subdue him with a Taser, but the suspect was wearing a thick coat that prevented the stun gun from being effective. LaRock then shot the man.
The suspect is at a hospital in Sioux Falls, S.D.
LaRock has been with the Pipestone County sheriff's office for 12 years.
The Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension is investigating.
