MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) — A teacher at Spectrum High School in Elk River has been charged, after he admitted to having a sexual relationship with one of his students.

The Maple Grove Police Department received a request to investigate the alleged relationship between a 17-year-old girl and her teacher, Matthew Craig Ellsworth, of St. Paul.

According to the complaint, the 36-year-old teacher also hired the student as a pet sitter, where she would stay overnight at his home. The student told police they kissed for the first time in June and slept together a few weeks after that.

She told police they both knew the relationship was illegal and talked about waiting until she turned 18.

Officials at the high school told police Ellsworth was an employee at the school and had acted as a mentor for the student’s senior project, which kept the two in contact through the summer.

Ellsworth will have his first court appearance on Nov. 15.

That’s great, they talked about doing the right thing, but then decided not to. Good luck with the rest of your life Matty boy, I hope it was worth it.

Now this is a great way to wreck ones life…and possibly two.

  3. See BS says:

Doug Hutchison, a character actor best known for roles in The Green Mile, Lost and The X-Files, married aspiring pop star Courtney Alexis Stodden on May 20 in Las Vegas. He is 51. She is 16.

So if you are a rich hollywood celeb it’s ok, but if you are an average joe, the State spends a million dollars punishing you for it.

And we have to raise taxes for it.

Very weird. This was my daughter’s teacher and during open house he stated that it was his “first” teaching job. The school he was teaching at as of Monday is not the school in this article. He was teaching at a middle school.

A note came home yesterday but I didn’t put this article and the two together until someone said something.

Unfortunately even if she would of been 18 it still would not be considered ok …because he was a person of authority.
What is truly sad is at 17 you know right from wrong and the instant he came on to her she could of went to someone and stopped it .
I moved out on my own when I was 17 , started raising a family, went to school and work…and yes my fiancee is older than I .I knew it was what I wanted and I have never regretted it . If she was 16 or younger I could understand ruining his life over it …but come on she was 17 and maybe a very mature one at that. I don’t see it as taboo as most because once you are 17 you pretty much understand life and what your decisions in life bring you. Good luck to both ….
