Police: St. Paul Woman Killed Was A Mother Of 2

ST. PAUL (WCCO) -- Police say the woman found dead Monday in her St. Paul home was a 27-year-old mother of two young children.

Police say they found Megan Neely deceased in her apartment on the 400 block of Milton Avenue North, after receiving a request for a welfare check.

Authorities are not saying how she died but say she was murdered and have classified the case as a homicide. They are looking to speak with Neely's ex-boyfriend, 31-year-old Corey Dean Thomas, but aren't saying whether or not he's a suspect.

So far, however, police have been unable to track down his whereabouts.

Neighbors say Neely lived in the upstairs duplex of the home on Milton and had two kids, ages 10 and 1.

Neely's sister contacted police on Saturday after not being able to get in touch with her sister. Police went with the sister to Neely's apartment and didn't notice anything out of the ordinary.

Neely's co-workers then called police on Monday after she didn't show up for work. Police had begun an investigation into Neely's whereabouts and on that second visit, searched the apartment and found Neely's body.

Co-workers and friends held a vigil Monday night to remember the mother of two.

Friends say Neely had been through treatment, just got a new job and recently moved into her apartment, where neighbors say they frequently saw Neely's current boyfriend hanging out.

Still, police say there are a lot of unanswered questions in this case.

One of Neely's friends said there was no indication that she was in trouble. She said she talked with her on the phone recently and thought everything was fine.

Police are working to find out how long Neely was missing because right now, that detail is unclear.
