MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) — The design for the revitalization of Peavey Plaza has been released.

At a 11 a.m. press conference, the renderings of the design were released. The city plans to begin the redesign in January, with a grand opening planned for the summer of 2013.

The project will have a two-phase design effort. The first, including programming, concept design and budget development has been budgeted for about $250,000. During this phase, the public will have a chance to view the designs and ask questions of the developer.

Approval of the design is anticipated for November.

Schematic design and construction will kick off the second phase, beginning in spring of 2012.

The entire project will be finalized later this year but is estimated to cost between $8 million and $10 million.

A public open house will be held from 4:30 to 6 p.m. Wednesday at Orchestra Hall, 1111 Nicollet Mall.

Spending money we don’t have on a project we don’t need.

    Union cronyism?

But will they allow tents for inarticulate, whiney malcontents?

It’s fine the way it is.

This is just another waste of taxpayer money.

Where is everyone? I thought everyone was so concerned about the way their tax dollars were being spent… strange especially considering this project does not generate any revenue or tax dollars, and is used by, or not even recognized by, less than 1% of all Minnesotans… unlike another project that is going to be funded by State money that SO many people are up in arms about that brings about countless jobs and all sorts of tax dollars…
Let Orchestra Hall pay for it, right zippysux? Oh wait, let me guess, Orchestra Hall was built with State money?
