Police: Woman Stole Gold Necklaces From Children

ST. PAUL (WCCO) — St. Paul Police are investigating after receiving several reports of theft, where a woman allegedly took gold necklaces from children.

Police say the incidents occurred at two area markets, Hmong Village, 1001 Johnson Parkway and Hmong Market, 217 Como Ave.

Police say the woman is accused of befriending the kids and their parents, before offering to introduce the children to her own kids. Once the child was away from their parents, the woman allegedly stole the child’s gold necklace and left the area.

Authorities say the children were not harmed in these incidents.

Witnesses described the woman as an Asian woman in her 20s, who appears to be pregnant. She was seen driving a Toyota minivan with Wisconsin license plates.

Anyone with information about these cases are asked to call 651-291-1111.

Why do the CHILDREN have gold necklace in the first place?

    1. green says:

      1) The gold necklaces are a symbol of protection from bad health, at least in the culture; kinda like a child carrying a good luck charm around if you will.
      2) These gold necklaces aren’t worth thousands, or even hundreds, but they mean a ton more to the person wearing it and the family who bought it for that person.

But you’d have to be able to accept cultural practices to understand these meanings.

Not all people carry good luck charms plus wearing a gold necklace looks way better than a dried up rabbit’s foot.

Jack needs diversity training. You’ll be surprise to know that Hmong people actually drive other cars beside Toyota Siennas…like Acura Integras, Honda Odysseys, Accords, Civics, Toyota Corollas, Camrys, Tacomas, Tundras, Scions, some Lexus, a few Nissans and maybe 1 or 2 Mazdas. I think that’s it though.
